To Impress the Girl

Boy, Girl, Kids, Children, Play, Fun

For all of human history, boys have worked hard to impress the girls. This youngster is taking his impressionistic art form to new heights. Sticking the landing is taking all his powers of concentration.

I love the look on both their faces.  If you look closely, you can see that both have their tongues sticking out. I enjoy the intensity on his face and the look of admiration on hers.

And now…the rest of the story.  These youngsters are our grandchildren and the boy is not trying to impress the girl (his sister), he’s trying to impress his visiting grandparents. I just happened to be trying out a new camera. It takes awhile to get used to a new camera and lens.  I certainly liked the early results.

Different Perspective

Girl, Hanging, Upside Down,If you are troubled by what you see, maybe you need to look at things from a different perspective.

This is a photo of one of our Grands taken last summer. I love this stage – when they like to have their picture taken and will even go out of their way to capture the attention of my camera.

Sweet Ride

Child, Swing, Monochrome, Girl

This sweetie was enjoying her backyard swing set. The wind-tossed hair makes this a captivating image for me.

I took this photo from about 70 feet away, just sitting and watching the grandchildren having fun on a sunny, breezy, early spring afternoon.

Perfect Little Piggies

Baby, Toes, Feet, Sleeping

I caught this sweet, newborn while napping with his perfect, little toes on display.

This is the latest edition to our family; a grandson.  Born a few months ago and a few states away, this was our first opportunity to meet him.  We had a great time with him and his siblings, of which you will see more of in future posts, I’m sure.

I like this photo because it does focus on the foot and those perfect little round piggies.  There is, also, something very sweet and peaceful about a sleeping newborn.

Amish Go Round

This young, Amish lad took a spin on the carousel.  I’m sure he is quite familiar with real horses.  His father was seated on the steed to his left; out of the camera’s view.

I snapped this photo during a family visit to the Columbus, Ohio Zoo.  I was trying to capture images of my own grandchildren on the ride and this little guy kept popping into the frame. I didn’t feel any of the photos I was going for of my own grandchildren turned out to be great, artistic works, but I really like this one.

Wondersome One

Child, Portrait, Baby, Blanket,
This darling seemed to have a look of serious thought the moment this image was snapped.

This is an image from a child portrait photo shoot. This is not the photo I would expect the parents to choose as a favorite, but it is one of my favorites from the session because of the child’s expression. To me, it conveys innocence and wonderment with a twinge of uncertainty.  I also enjoy the vivid colors, the wispy curls of hair above this cutie’s ears and her holding the blade of grass.

This was a quick, portrait session.  We had a baby.  We had a rural setting on a spring day.   We simply added a colorful blanket and found a spot in the grass with an open field and distant tree line for a background.

The Stars In Her Eyes

Flag, American Flag, Child, Patriot, Young, Patriotism
A Happy Independence Day to you!

This is one of our grandchildren who was examining a small flag of the United States of America. This image was captured last year when we had the opportunity to visit our son and his family in Ohio. We brought flags for each of the youngsters with us. They had a blast running around with them, waving them wildly. I made a mental note to remember this shot when the 4th of July rolled around.

Tuesday’s Child

Child Portrait, Monochrome, Child, Girl
They say… “Tuesday’s child is full of grace.” This child seems to be blessed with full measure of grace and a double measure of cuteness.

This is what I consider a candid portrait; where I simply follow the subject as they roam around snapping frames while they do whatever they would normally do. Using this approach, you end up snapping a lot of pictures trying to find a good pose or compelling expression. With a child this young, you usually won’t have much success trying to get them to pose.

Sleeper Hold

Infant, Baby, Monochrome, Sleeping, Holding

There is nothing as peaceful as a sleeping baby. This little one seems comforted by holding the thumb of the one holding her.

I like this image because of the peaceful warmth it instills in me. I also love the contrast in size and age between the two hands. A great study in texture and tone.

This is an image featuring my wife and a newborn niece. A very sweet baby who was very cooperative…as sleeping babies tend to be.

Considering the Next Move

,
Child Portrait, Monochrome, B&W, CandidWith the look on her face I can’t help but wonder, what was she thinking at the moment this photo was snapped.

This image was taken during an afternoon with family in Ohio. Our granddaughter was away from the group, exploring the surroundings at a park.  As you can see, I was keeping my eye (and focus) on her and snapping photos.
