Curvaceous

Road, Curvy, Door County, Fall, Fall Foliage, Curves, Winding,
A number of people have told me this stretch of highway, just before you reach Gills Rock at the northern tip of the Door County, WI peninsula, is the most photographed road in the world.  I don’t know who’s keeping track, but a number of people stopped and got out of their cars to snap a quick photo while I was there. In fact, I left my home before sunrise just to get there and this shot in the early morning light.

My intent was to make it an “Autumn Colors” tour and get some great fall foliage.  I didn’t get much else worth noting.  Once the sun was up, it was clear and bright – creating too much contrast and washing out the colors.

I spent a good deal of time in processing this image. A lot of that time was spent removing a power line that stretched across the upper part of the image. Thanks to the magic of software…with a bit of skill and a bunch of patience…an unsightly distraction was eliminated. I thought about removing the mailbox and For Sale sign on the right, but decided it wasn’t too distracting and probably added to the rural feel.

Canopy of Color

Fall, Autumn, Leaves, Foliage, Trees, Colorful
This is the time to get out into the woods and view the vivid colors of the changing leaves.  This is a upward view from the woodlands near our home in rural Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Yesterday was my first opportunity to get out and grab some fall color shots. I picked up a few.

Evening at Pabst

Pabst, Beer, Night, Brewery, Historic, City, Skyline
An early evening view of the historic, Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin under a deepening night sky.

I’ve had this image hibernating on my hard drive for some time.  I finally got around to processing it.  I took it several months ago, when a Milwaukee area photographer friend showed me around the downtown area…after an enjoyable meal at Jackson’s, the restaurant located in the lower left corner of the Pabst building.

There’s some great detail in this image, which can be seen more clearly in the larger view you’ll see if you click on the photo.

Calming Cascade – Wagner Falls

Wagner Falls, Waterfall, Waterfalls, Falls, Munising, MI, Michigan

On a recent getaway to the upper peninsula of Michigan, we stopped at a favorite spot for visitors to the Munising area – Wagner Falls.

Just on the edge of town with a nice path and viewing deck, it’s easy to see why this is a popular stop.

Exotic Flavor

It’s easy to get lost in a crowd, but the truly unique are easy to spot.  I found this lovely example in the tulips of the annual Tulip Festival in Pella, IA.

Happy Faces

You can’t help but smile when you see the bright, happy faces of the delicate, blooming violas.

These are some of our favorites in the garden.  They seem to be very prolific, popping up in the lawn and other flowerbeds where they weren’t planted.

Wild Kiss of Spring

Wildflower, Purple, Green, Flower, Wild
One of the great joys I have is roaming through the woods in early spring, searching for the season’s first blooms.  A few days ago, Sara and I took a hike in search of mushrooms and, of course, I had my camera.  There was little in bloom, but these little beauties were a delightful find.

Eyes of Wonder

Baby, Baby Portrait, Child Blue Eyes, Pretty
That look of innocence and wide-eyed wonder is priceless.  On a recent visit, I made sure to get on the floor with our granddaughter and my camera.

The camera is a proven baby attractant; an immediate point of interest for the short-lived attention span of youngsters.  The challenge is to move close enough to fill the frame with your subject and still keep out of reach. I usually spend a lot of time scooting backward and snapping a lot of photos in hopes of snagging one or two good shots.  This is one of my favorites.

Beauty in Red

Rose, Red, Flower, Wet, Drops, Water Drops, Dew, Garden
But friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold.   Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Botanists have classified around 400,000 different flowering plant species in the world.  Many are very beautiful but, in any judgement of floral beauty, I believe all must be compared to the rose.

This beauty was not photographed at our home. Nor did I find it a the botanical gardens. This one was photographed one morning at the Yellow Rose Motel in Branson, MO. – which had a variety of roses and other beautiful flowering plants on the grounds but, ironically, I could find no yellow roses.

Troubadours of Basin Spring Park

Colorful street musicians entertain visitors to Basin Spring Park in the heart of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

I rarely engage in “street photography.”  This couple offered themselves as easy targets and the resulting image, in my mind, is priceless.  I realize, most people wont find anything special here – it doesn’t reveal the awesome light of a landscape sunrise, the intricate design of a floral macro or the wonder of a well crafted nature photo.  Still, it is special to me because, within its frame, I find so many interesting elements. The more I stare at it, the more I see. Let me start a list…

The musicians, themselves; an interesting couple to say the least. I find their expressions and attire intriguing. I wonder if they are romantically engaged or simply musically engaged. (By the way, as musicians and singers, they were quite enjoyable.)

Then there’s the instruments. These something highly appealing to me about an aged, well-worn guitar.  Zooming in, I couldn’t tell the brand, but the fret board has “125th Anniversary” printed with pearl inlay.

The upright bass shows comfortable wear, but what grabs my eye is the rosette (made of terrycloth, or some similar material) on the head.

The gal’s knee brace reveals something about injury and personal struggle.

Her boots are an interesting match with the Under Armor knee socks.

The banjo on the bench.  An interesting accessory.

The banjo case at their feet – a collection point for appreciative patrons (a couple dollars visible) with the “Hobo Knife” bumper sticker.

Both have some interesting tattoos on their arms.

That’s a good start.  I purposely left out a few other items that I find interesting, to give you a chance to point them out.  If you see something that catches your eye, leave a comment below.
