The simplicity of this photo is what appeals to me most. It’s not a dramatic, eye-popping image. It’s a simple, normal view of the lighthouse at Kewaunee, WI…taken early one morning from the beach.

View from Shore
I know most people prefer to sleep in on Saturday mornings. Not me. I’m up before the sun and scouting out potential, natural beauty. For me, another hour or two of sleep just isn’t worth what I might miss on a calm morning in the pre-sunrise glow.
This is one of my favorite Saturday morning locations. This was the scene just before the sun appeared over Lake Michigan and the lighthouse at Kewaunee, WI…as viewed from the beach.

Serenity Beach
The calmness of the lake and the soothing colors make this a serene scene. This photo was taken from the beach in Kewaunee, WI just before sunrise on a cool fall morning.

Morning Charms
This is a similar shot to one I posted last week. This is the upper part of the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse. The previous post (Wisps of Light) was cropped a little closer and left the lighthouse as a silhouette. This one offers a little more sky and a little more detail of the lighthouse.

Sunny Delight
Everyone loves sunflowers. There is just something about their bright, cheery disposition that even a cloudy day can’t dampen. A full field of them is sheer delight!
We’ve had some dreary, gray days – weather wise – recently. I thought a sunflower image would be a welcome sight. This field of sunflowers was found in our area of rural Kewaunee County, WI.

Wisps of Light
I’ve taken a lot of photos of the Kewaunee lighthouse, but none like this. This was a pre-sunrise shot focusing on the light of the lighthouse. The morning sky provided a dramatic background.
I have another, similar shot where the lighthouse isn’t all shadow. I’ll post it in a couple of days.

Bright Future
Here’s an image from my Thanksgiving weekend. While everyone at my home is taking advantage of the holiday by sleeping in, I’m trying to capture an image worth posting on this blog.
This is a shot of the sun rising over Lake Michigan, beyond the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse. The waters were rough and the pier was wet which gave a little bit of color to the normally drab, concrete pier.

Wide Awakening
This is a panoramic view of the sun rising over Lake Michigan just beyond the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse.
Sometime I create the wide, panorama images by joining together several individual shots. This one, however, was created in the camera. My Sony SLT-A55V has a “sweep shooting” mode. When in sweep shooting mode, you hold the shutter button and slowly pan across the scene you want to capture. The camera takes multiple images and then joins them together in the camera.
As you can see, sometimes the results are pretty good. Sometimes, it’s better to put together individual images on the computer.

Sun & Surf Rising
Rough seas and a rising sun create a nice contrast in this image. Normally the early morning, beach-side view of Lake Michigan is calm and reflective of the sun as it emerges above the horizon. The morning of this shot, the tension of the rough, rolling waves quash the calm.
The structure near the horizon is the lighthouse at Kewaunee, WI.

Moody Morning
My time is somewhat limited. My best opportunities for image hunting has been early Saturday and Sunday mornings. My best locations…given my limited time…is close to home. That’s why you see a lot of sunrise photos of the Algoma and Kewaunee lighthouse. (I live 2 miles from Kewaunee, 12 miles from Algoma.)
This was one of several nice shots I got from Kewaunee last Saturday. Winds have been gusty and the seas were rough. Then next morning – Sunday – I got some nice sunrise photos from Algoma. I’ll be posting some of those soon.
