Lambeau Field

Packers Wall of Fame

Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Packers, Lambeau, NFL, Football
An impressive display honoring inductees into the newly renovated Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

This is just one side of the inductees display that line the walls of the new Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The gold footballs are engraved with the name and likeness of the player as well as the date of their induction into the Hall of Fame. In the lower right corner of this image is the gold football honoring, Earl “Curly” Lambeau, founder, player, and first coach of the Green Bay Packers.

You can learn more about the Packers Hall of Fame here:  http://www.packers.com/lambeau-field/hall-of-fame/visit.html

Mean Gene

Green Bay Packers, Packers, Cheese Head, Cheesehead, Football, Fan
Let me introduce you to Mean Gene.  That’s the name on the back of his jersey.  His given name is Gene Greening. I saw Gene on recent visit to Lambeau Field – home of the Green Bay Packers of NFL fame.

I had a few minutes and decided to stop in and take photos of anything that might catch my eye. Turns out, Mean Gene was the most interesting thing I encountered. With his “#1 Fan” foam finger and other stylish accessories attached to his Cheese Head, he was a standout. I asked if I could take his photo and he was kind enough to accommodate me…cheering, “Go, Pack, Go!” while waving his Packers towel. I’ll bet Gene could tell you stories and glories of many Packer seasons. Unfortunately, neither of us had time to chat – just snapped a few quick photos and went our separate ways.

I did learn, beside being the ultimate Packers fan, Mean Gene was at Lambeau that day as a volunteer. He was helping with some event for disabled veterans. It’s obvious, Gene is living up to his reputation as a true Packers Fan but I don’t think he’s succeeding in pulling off the “Mean” persona. (But, then again, I’ve never seen him on game day.)

Lombardi At Lambeau

Lambeau, Lambeau Field, Packers, Green Bay, Vince Lombardi, Statue
I took a few minutes to drop by Lambeau Field – home of the Green Bay Packers – and snapped this image at the entrance to the Atrium. The imposing bronze statue in the foreground is the likeness of legendary Packers coach, Vince Lombardi. The statue, itself, is 14 feet tall, on a four pedestal, resting on three foot stair base. This image was taken in the early evening, in early December. (Notice the wreaths and snowflake decorations in the lower windows.)

Curly’s Stairway

I overheard a sad conversation the other day.  A man was telling the clerk at a convenience store how he was suffering from “Football Withdrawal.”  It’s an affliction affecting many people this time of year…especially those who live in the frozen tundra.  Although, for Packer’s fans, the onset was a little later this year, since the Packers got to play all the way to the Super Bowl.

In these parts, when you find yourself in the grip of Football Withdrawal you can make a trip to Lambeau Field – home of the World Champion Green Bay Packers.  It’s not a complete cure, but it eases the discomfort a bit.  There are a variety of historic images, activities, tours, Packers Hall of Fame, the Pro Shop and Curly’s Pub.

This is a view of the stairway leading to the second level of the Lambeau Atrium where Curly’s Pub is located. The guy in the picture is, of course, Curly Lambeau – the founder and first coach of the Packers and namesake of the stadium where they play.

There’s something about this photo that really appeals to me.  It’s one of my favorites. (Probably a beauty-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder kind of thing.)
