Stately Stance

Sandhill Crane, Crane, BirdThis sandhill crane seemed to strike a pose when I snapped this photo. It is standing at the edge of our homestead, next to a recently harvested wheat field.

We have a lot of sandhill cranes around our home this time of year. Unfortunately, they are very shy and the moment I get anywhere close to them, the take off. I happened to snap this photo by just cracking the door or my garage and poking my lens out. Even my stealthy strategy did not go unnoticed. They were alert (a pair of them) and quickly on the move.  This was take some distance away using a 300mm lens…and then cropped in quite a bit to provide this view.

To Impress the Girl

Boy, Girl, Kids, Children, Play, Fun

For all of human history, boys have worked hard to impress the girls. This youngster is taking his impressionistic art form to new heights. Sticking the landing is taking all his powers of concentration.

I love the look on both their faces.  If you look closely, you can see that both have their tongues sticking out. I enjoy the intensity on his face and the look of admiration on hers.

And now…the rest of the story.  These youngsters are our grandchildren and the boy is not trying to impress the girl (his sister), he’s trying to impress his visiting grandparents. I just happened to be trying out a new camera. It takes awhile to get used to a new camera and lens.  I certainly liked the early results.

Different Perspective

Girl, Hanging, Upside Down,If you are troubled by what you see, maybe you need to look at things from a different perspective.

This is a photo of one of our Grands taken last summer. I love this stage – when they like to have their picture taken and will even go out of their way to capture the attention of my camera.

Sweet Ride

Child, Swing, Monochrome, Girl

This sweetie was enjoying her backyard swing set. The wind-tossed hair makes this a captivating image for me.

I took this photo from about 70 feet away, just sitting and watching the grandchildren having fun on a sunny, breezy, early spring afternoon.

Perfect Little Piggies

Baby, Toes, Feet, Sleeping

I caught this sweet, newborn while napping with his perfect, little toes on display.

This is the latest edition to our family; a grandson.  Born a few months ago and a few states away, this was our first opportunity to meet him.  We had a great time with him and his siblings, of which you will see more of in future posts, I’m sure.

I like this photo because it does focus on the foot and those perfect little round piggies.  There is, also, something very sweet and peaceful about a sleeping newborn.

Turtle Happy

Turtle, Smile, MudThis big fella seemed content to be lounging in a ravine, caked in mud, balanced on a log, basking in the sunshine of an early spring morning. This photo was taken in the woods of northeast Wisconsin.

As we began a hike along the Ahnapee State Trail another couple ending their hike told us to watch for a large turtle in the ditch.  We walked quite a while and didn’t see anything.  We thought we’d missed it or it had moved on. Well, as you can see, we eventually spotted it.

To get up-close and personal, I had to tromp through some muck. It didn’t seem to mind my presence and sat for quite a few shots. Eventually it slid off the log and moved to the shade and mud under the log.

I don’t know what kind of turtle (or tortoise) this is but I can tell you he was large and looked ancient. Judging by the slight smile on his face, I think he was happy to see me.

Tucker the Pup

Puppy, Pup, Dog, Cute, Brittany SpanielMeet Tucker, the Brittany pup. He’s a recent addition to my in-laws family. They are rather partial to the breed. This photo was taken when Tucker was about 8-weeks old. He lives in northwest Missouri.

According to Wikipedia…  “The Brittany is a breed of gun dog bred primarily for bird hunting. Although it is often referred to as a spaniel, the breed’s working characteristics are more akin to those of a pointer or setter.”

This image is not any great photographic achievement, but every now and then I feel the urge to post something that ranks high on the “adorable” scale. That’s Tucker.

Amish Go Round

This young, Amish lad took a spin on the carousel.  I’m sure he is quite familiar with real horses.  His father was seated on the steed to his left; out of the camera’s view.

I snapped this photo during a family visit to the Columbus, Ohio Zoo.  I was trying to capture images of my own grandchildren on the ride and this little guy kept popping into the frame. I didn’t feel any of the photos I was going for of my own grandchildren turned out to be great, artistic works, but I really like this one.

Wondersome One

Child, Portrait, Baby, Blanket,
This darling seemed to have a look of serious thought the moment this image was snapped.

This is an image from a child portrait photo shoot. This is not the photo I would expect the parents to choose as a favorite, but it is one of my favorites from the session because of the child’s expression. To me, it conveys innocence and wonderment with a twinge of uncertainty.  I also enjoy the vivid colors, the wispy curls of hair above this cutie’s ears and her holding the blade of grass.

This was a quick, portrait session.  We had a baby.  We had a rural setting on a spring day.   We simply added a colorful blanket and found a spot in the grass with an open field and distant tree line for a background.

Turbulent Solitude

Sunrise, Waves, Lake Michigan, Lighthouse, Kewaunee, WisconsinLake Michigan’s waves were churning during an otherwise peaceful morning as the sun was ascending behind the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier. Look closely and you can see people fishing on the pier.

I checked the date stamp on this image and it appears I took this photo on the morning of my birthday in September of 2017. It took me long enough to finally get around to processing and posting it. I may need to get more focused.
