Flowers are blooming and the bees are buzzing.  This proved to be a popular spot in the meadow.  Honey bees and bumble bees were frequenting this clump of purple spiderswort. It was early morning – maybe 6:30 (notice the dew still on the plants) – and they were already hard at it.

To get this shot, I put my camera on a tripod and simply focused on a colorful, well lit clump of flowers and waited.  When a bee would enter into the scene, I would start clicking.  The bees you see here are exactly how I photographed them…but they were never in the shot together.  Since the focus and framing never changed, it was easy to combine the various bees from separate images into one.

Morning Friends (cool)

Light and color sets the mood of any scene.  This is an image that I changed the color of.  The original image is an early morning, pre-sunrise scene – with the sky a golden orange.  Through a little digital magic, I change the hue of this image to a cool, purple.  To me, it now has an early evening feel.

The question is, which do you like better?  Compare the two and decide for yourself.  The original is here: Morning Friends  (Clicking the link will open a new tab, so you can go back and forth between the two.)

Poppy’s Purple Passion

This time of year you’ll see me post a lot of flowers.  After the long winter, they are hard to resist.

This is a close -up of the very first Poppy to pop in Sara’s flower bed.  I took the photo two days ago and it’s already gone – the victim of a strong breeze.  However, there are several others that have taken it’s place.

Poppies are some of our favorites.  I suspect I’ll post more before the blooming is done.

Petals of Purple

Today, please accept my simple gift of purple.

Studies show colors can affect us mentally and physically.  It’s said the color purple can be uplifting, calming to the mind and nerves, offering a sense of spirituality and encouraging creativity.

I’m sorry, I don’t know what kind of flower this is. I found it was flourishing in a flowerbed in rural Indiana.
