Siberian Squill

Siberian Squill, Blue, Flower

This tiny blue flower is one of the earliest spring bloomers.  This is Siberian Squill. You will find it low to the ground and you have to look quick, because they don’t bloom long. It’s one of our favorite flowers in our rural Wisconsin the flower bed.

Ending On a Calm Note

Sunset, Sky, Pano, Panorama

This is a panoramic view of an impressive, January sunset in rural Kewaunee County, Wisconsin home.  This photo was taken at the end of January in 2013.

This photo is much larger and wider than you see here.  I’ve had to crop it to make it fit the format of this web page.  However, if you click on the photo, you will get a view of the full image – at least as much as your screen can handle.

Gooseberry Falls

Gooseberry Falls, Waterfall, Water

Along the northern shore of Lake Superior you will find Gooseberry Falls State Park of Minnesota.  This is the park’s namesake – Gooseberry falls.

This is one of the photos I found in my archives. This image was captured July 7, 2017.  It was taken on a trip to the Duluth, MN area.  It was a trip that ended in tragedy; where I broke my Sony A77V camera!  Nobody was hurt, but it was a traumatic event for me. I got over it by purchasing the same model (used) for about half the price of new. And, as they say, the rest was photographic history.

This is a small panoramic image; where I combined two separate photos to provide a wider view. You can get a larger, more detailed view of these waterfalls by clicking on the photo.

Fire From Below

Pano, Kewaunee, Lighthouse, SunriseThis spectacular August sunrise colored the sky behind the Kewaunee lighthouse and pier.  Kewaunee, Wisconsin is a small town, located on the western shore of Lake Michigan.

This is a panoramic shot of about three separate photos joined (stitched) together to create a wide-view image. This photo was taken on August 31, 2019.  I just discovered it in my archives.  I did post another image taken this same morning I titled, “Awaking the Calm.” (Click the title to see that one.)

This is not the greatest image because it was taken when it was still pretty dark – much darker than what this photos represents. I had to remove a lot of digital “noise” and pull back the saturation. You can see a larger version of it by clicking on the image.  If you look closely at the larger image you will see boats in the water (to the right of the lighthouse) and fishermen on the pier.

Chill In the Air

Algoma, Lighthouse, Winter, Sunrise

I recently upgraded my computer and while transferring files, I discovered a number of images worthy of revisiting.  (Actually, there’s a lot I’ve just not gotten around to processing.)

My typical photo outing is to go take a number of photos, download them to the computer, find my favorite, process it and post it.  That leaves a lot of photos taken on the same day untouched.  Many of them are worthy of posting, but I rarely get to it.  This is one of those images dating back to February 17, 2013.  Back then I selected and posted “Frigid Sunrise Fog” as my favorite shot.

Fireworks Over Manistique

Fireworks, Manistique, MI, Night

The fireworks were fabulous over Manistique, Michigan as they celebrated the 4th of July weekend. (07/03/22). Manistique is a small town on the shores of Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan.

This photo was actually taken by my wife, Sara.  I set the camera up and gave her the remote shutter button.  She wasn’t quite sure what she was doing, since this was her first time. I think she did a great job…with the help of a great teacher.

You can get a better view with a full-screen view by clicking on the image.

Graceful Spring Twins

Daffodil, Daffodils, White, Flowers, Spring

I like taking walks with my camera.  I was by myself, strolling along a rural backroad in central Ohio when I came upon a very small and very old cemetery.  There were a lot of interesting old tombstones.  I read and photographed a few. Then, off to the side of the plot, among some trees, there were these two daffodils. It was early spring and I saw not other flowers – wild or otherwise. I was very happy to find these two standing tall in the shadows.

Different Perspective

Girl, Hanging, Upside Down,If you are troubled by what you see, maybe you need to look at things from a different perspective.

This is a photo of one of our Grands taken last summer. I love this stage – when they like to have their picture taken and will even go out of their way to capture the attention of my camera.

Royal Throne

Butterfly, Monarch, Macro

This monarch butterfly took a moment to rest and feed on the flowers provided by West of the Lake Gardens in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

These favorite photo subjects will be departing for central Mexico soon.  I was able to grab a few butterfly and flower photos on a recent Saturday.  Hopefully I’ll get a chance to share a few more of these in the near future.

Kewaunee Sparkles

Kewaunee, Fireworks, Night, Tug

Fireworks light up the night sky over the Kewaunee, WI harbor.  The Tug Ludington, a tourist attraction and permanent resident of the harbor, was a quiet observer.

One of my photographic joys is capturing fireworks. Kewaunee is a couple of miles from my home, so I try to make their annual display.  I’ve photographed their fireworks from a number of locations over the years but this spot, at the edge of the harbor is one of my favorites.  I love the reflection from the calm water. The tug adds a nice point of interest.
