B&W
Flowing Silk Linens
This is a simple, yet elegant, poppy bloom from the flower bed near our back door. The petals reminded me of linens on a clothes line, flowing under the influence of a warm summer breeze.
It’s original color was the typical poppy red, but I decided to process it as a monochrome image. I love the subtle variations in tone and texture that are not as noticeable with the color version.

January Fog
Whatever lies beyond that tree has been swallowed up by a eerie mid-winter’s fog.
This is was snapped in the middle of the day, in the farm field across the road from our rural home in Kewaunee County, WI. I’ve taken quite a few photos of this tree over the years. See… Spring Enchantment, Day’s End Elm and Serene Sunset.

Tangled Web
On a stroll with my camera, this mass of spider webs caught my eye. These webs were under a dock on a calm lake, a foot or so above the water. The early morning light behind the webs and the darker color of the water make them stand out.

With Dad
The eyes of this child are hypnotic. It’s hard for me to look away…all the while, wondering what she might be thinking.
This is a father and daughter – part of a family of five I was working with for a family portrait. He was carrying her as we walked to another setting in the outdoors.

Sentinels – Fishing in the Fog
Like sentinels with bayonets drawn, two fishermen are on high alert, ready for the bite. These stalwart anglers are fishing for salmon in the early morning fog. Their lures are plying the waters of Lake Michigan, off the pier at Algoma, Wisconsin.

Angling in a Fog
A lone fisherman waits in a fog for the first bite. He’s fishing for salmon or trout in the waters of Lake Michigan from the pier in Algoma, Wisconsin.
This was the scene I found last Saturday. I stopped and took a number of photos of this guy…and the lighthouse and flowers and bees and birds…”whatever caught my eye.”

Blooming in Black & White
I love fireworks. The climbing rockets, bursting into bright, streaming displays of color and light are an irresistible enticement for my photographic efforts.
I decided to try something unusual with this one. The shape of the bursts reminded me of flowers blooming. Rather than emphasize the color, I removed all color to accentuate the shape.
I wasn’t sure I’d like it without the color, but the more I look at it, the more it appeals to me. I really like the firework’s reflection in the water.

Coming In
A lone boat heads for the harbor of Algoma, Wisconsin after a morning of fishing on Lake Michigan. The combination of sun, sky, lake and boat provide plenty to keep the eye and the mind busy with this one.

Daisy in the Dark
One delicate bloom holding it’s own against the relentless, encroaching darkness.
This is a daisy growing wild in our yard. Of course, when I took the photo it wasn’t dark. The image you see is the result of “processing.” (For bonus points, compare this image with one I call Unassuming Charm.)

Winter Beach Morning – sepia
I can’t believe I hadn’t posted this image before. I’ve been working on bringing images to my sales site and discovered I’d never posted this on the blog. I’d posted the color version in March of 2011. (See it HERE)
This is a winter view of Crescent Beach at Algoma, Wisconsin on the western shore of Lake Michigan. I took this early in the morning following a huge snow storm. The snow was still blowing, but the camera didn’t pick it up.
