Lighthouse
The Churning
This is not my typical lighthouse photo from Algoma, WI. A spell of very cold temperatures created considerable ice along the shore and powerful Lake Michigan winds churned up a torrent of wave action with spectacular splashes.

Icy Morning Mist
When air temperatures are below freezing, the slightly warmer Lake Michigan waters can create a mist around areas that haven’t frozen over. The early sun highlights the mist around the harbor and lighthouse of Algoma, WI.
Last February I posted another, very similar, view of this morning scene entitled, Frigid Sunrise Fog. This version offers more of the rocks and ice in the foreground.

Amiable Awakening
Nothing is more enjoyable than watching the sky transition through a warm array of colors as the sun rises above Lake Michigan, behind the Algoma, WI harbor and lighthouse. It doesn’t happen every morning. In fact, it doesn’t happen more than it does. But when it does, it’s well worth the effort to have a front row seat.
Quietude

qui·e·tude, n, 1. a state of stillness, calmness, and quiet in a person or place.
It was a calm morning in Kewaunee, WI as the sun began its assent over Lake Michigan, beyond the pier and lighthouse.

Morning Break
The gentle waves and pre-sunrise glow created a relaxing experience on the shores of Lake Michigan near the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier.

Watercolor Sky
A wonderful morning of watercolor tones at the Algoma, WI lighthouse and harbor. A perfect place to be for a peaceful start to the day. Of course, to see this beauty, you have to be willing to be there very early…before sunrise.

Steel Blue Sunrise
This was a magical moment. The sun was rising above a calm Lake Michigan. A few fishermen on the pier…a few geese overhead…with some very cool highlights adding definition to the background of low clouds.

Popular Night Spot
A number of people waited near the lighthouse, at the end of the long, Kewaunee, WI pier, to watch the full moon rise above Lake Michigan.
This was an August full moon. The small lights you see on the horizon are fishing boats out on the lake. I took this photo from the beach with a large zoom lens.

Smartly Cloudy
These fluffy clouds had a unique quality – enhanced by a partially hidden sunrise. The bright, back-lighting created a sharp silhouette of the lighthouse and piers that mark and separate the Algoma, Wisconsin harbor from Lake Michigan.
