Dawn’s Brighter Light

Algoma, Lighthouse, Sunrise, Silhouette I’ll have to tag this as one of my favorites.  The rising sun, muted by light cloud cover and hidden behind the lighthouse, created a wonderful pallet of fall colors.

Colorful Queen Ann’s Lace

Wildflower, Queen Ann's Lace, FlowerI’m not overly particular about my subjects.  I take photos of anything that catches my eye.  This was something that caught my eye because I found it unusual.

This is common Queen Ann’s Lace.  Normally the delicate flowers are snow white and create a full bouquet – with little space between the blooms.  The color and sparse display for this bunch must be due to the onset of colder weather.  Normally the stems are a simple green, not the purplish-red color seen here.  (This photo was take this fall.)

Crimson Tide

Sunrise, Algoma, Lighthouse, Sky, WaterLast Sunday morning I stopped by the Algoma, WI harbor on my way to church.  (Thankful for the earlier sunrise due to the Daylight Savings time shift.)

It was a beautiful sunrise and a very productive shoot. I have several photos that I’ll be posting from this batch.

The sky is something on this one, but it’s the reflection off the water that makes this one for me.  And the larger the image, the better it looks.  To see it larger, click on the photo.

Waiting for a Bus

Bug, Leaf, InsectI found this odd looking bugger in one of my wife’s flower beds.  Goofy looking and larger than a typical house fly, I worked on sneaking up on it to, hopefully, get a decent picture of it.  To my delight and surprise, this guy didn’t seem to mind me.  It sat there – just as you see him – while I moved within inches and snapped several photos.

This is an image I captured several years ago using my consumer grade Kodak Easyshare DX7590.  That camera was pretty good at macro work.

On a side note:  I posted this yesterday on my Google+ account.  Someone commented, “That’s a dung fly.”  I think I would have preferred not to know that.  Especially when I consider how comfortable it was with my presence.  (If you’d like to follow me on Google +:  https://plus.google.com/u/0/113684854375405108383/posts)

Moody Morning

Lighthouse, Sunrise, Kewaunee, Lake
My time is somewhat limited.  My best opportunities for image hunting has been early Saturday and Sunday mornings. My best locations…given my limited time…is close to home. That’s why you see a lot of sunrise photos of the Algoma and Kewaunee lighthouse. (I live 2 miles from Kewaunee, 12 miles from Algoma.)

This was one of several nice shots I got from Kewaunee last Saturday. Winds have been gusty and the seas were rough. Then next morning – Sunday – I got some nice sunrise photos from Algoma. I’ll be posting some of those soon.

Burning Bush

Sunset, Sunrise, SkyThis is what the sky looked like at my house last night.  Well…at least a small portion of the sky.  And, there really wasn’t any fire, just an amazing sunset sky.

I had to use the full reach of my 300mm lens for this shot.  I think the bush is actually the top of a tree reaching above the horizion.  The two sticks on either side are telephone poles.

The color range and smokey, warm-to-hot tones are what make this image for me.

Eyes On You

Cat, Cat Eyes, Cat Face, Cat CloseupI’d been itching to take some photos.  It had been a few days since I had taken the time to pull my camera out of the case. As I often do, I just took my camera for a walk around my yard.  It was the end of the day…near sunset.  Our cat, Dorry, was an easy target.  The soft light and low angle of the sun added a nice quality to this image.

Great Blue Heron

Birds, Heron, Great Blue Heron

I took this photo while gliding by in a canoe on the Kewaunee river.  I was on my way up-river to, hopefully, catch some small mouth bass. It was early morning in the middle of summer.

There’s a little bit of digital trickery in this image.  There was only one Great Blue Heron along the shore.  I took several pictures and combined two of them to make it look like a pair of birds.  I thought it made the image more interesting.

Dawn of Promise

Sunrise, Algoma, Lighthouse, Panorama

“You can become blind by seeing each day as a similar one. Each day is a different one, each day brings a miracle of its own. It’s just a matter of paying attention to this miracle.” – Paulo Coelho

Sweet Distraction

Sunrise, Algoma, Lighthouse, Clouds

Yesterday morning (Sunday) I was on my way to church and thought I should stop and take a few shots of the sunrise. The church where I serve as pastor is just a few blocks from this scene. This is the Algoma harbor and lighthouse taken from the marina area.

Those few clouds caught my eye. Normally I would crop this photo more, but I purposely left a lot of sky above the few clouds. That just seemed right to me.
