Morels
Went on a little hike yesterday and found a good bunch of Morel Mushrooms. Here are a couple of examples. Sara gets giddy over finding morels. It’s a family springtime tradition.

Low Profile
This female Red-winged Blackbird was foraging through the tall grass on an early spring morning. She’s finding seeds dropped from a feeder that hangs above this spot.
The female looks quite a bit different from the male, with his jet-black body and bright red shoulders.

I would love to be able to boast that I took this photo from a flowerbed in our yard. This stunning display is another scene from West of the Lake Gardens in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
After the long, hard winter we experienced this year, this spot of incredible beauty is healing therapy for the soul.

Garden Torches
After a bit of a delay, due to an unusually cold start to spring, the tulips are now in top form throughout northeast Wisconsin.
In a sea of red and yellow tulips, these orange toned specimens stood out. The color reminded me of flames – like garden torches.
These beauties were found in Manitowoc’s West of the Lake Gardens. The garden delayed their season opening by a couple of weeks due to the weather.

Superior Rock Collection
On a summer trip to the shore of Lake Superior, a few years ago, we had the opportunity to wade through the clear, icy cold waters.
This is a collection of colorful rocks in the shallow water near the Wisconsin shore of Lake Superior.
I used this as my desktop wallpaper for a long time and always thought it would be a challenging image for a large puzzle.

Determined Presence
The sunrise was almost blocked by the cloud bank over Lake Michigan. Even with the clouds, the sun powered through. The dampening effect of the clouds was enough to give this scene an early evening feel.

Daffodils Today – Tulips Tomorrow
The daffodils were the early bloomers in this bunch, photographed at a local park, but the tulips are soon to follow.
For the locals who want to know where these were found – I snapped these beauties in Kewaunee, on the corner of the park by the harbor.

Nester
I took this appropriate photo on Mother’s Day. I was taking photos at the Algoma, WI harbor and stumbled upon this Canada Goose sitting on her nest. She was a little nervous and was guarded while I was around, but I kept my distance.

Blue Harbor
A morning view of the sun rising over the Algoma, Wisconsin harbor with the piers and lighthouse in the distance.
The foreground is mostly mud and the footprints are from water foul that enjoy piddling around in there.

Daffodil Standout
I was out taking photos of one of my favorite lighthouses and spotted some daffodils on the drive home. I stopped and took photos of the normal yellow variety and then thought to drive around Kewaunee, WI to see if I could find more.
This is one from a home that had an impressive display, featuring many varieties. I spent quite a bit of time snapping daffodils.
