Farm Field Sunrise
Here’s a view of this morning’s sunrise (07/14/11) from my back yard – taken at the edge of a farm field.
Our home is surrounded by farm fields. It gives a mostly clear view of the sky in all directions. Which is why take a lot of sunrises and sunsets.

Morning in Blue
I got up earlier than usual Saturday morning with the hope of capturing the dazzling red and orange hues of a Lake Michigan sunrise. As you can see, the clouds were too thick for the sun to break through.
This photo was taken around sunrise (5:10 am) at the harbor in Algoma, WI.
Sunrise Siren Call
I had plenty to accomplish this morning before going to work. My mind wasn’t on photography, but when I stepped out our back door (on my way to fill the bird feeders for the day) I was captivated by this amazing morning sky. I had stuff to do. I already have plenty of sunrises in my photo collection. (Just browse through this blog or type “sunrise” in the search box.) Still, I couldn’t help myself. I had to grab this image. This was a morning I wish I was at one of the nearby harbors – to catch the reflection off the water, too.
This is actually the compilation of seven separate photos “stitched” together. The blog page, because of its size limitations, doesn’t do it justice. If you click on the photo, you can see a larger version…but, in my opinion, it’s still too small to get anywhere close to the full effect.
Kewaunee Morning Glory
Sometimes being up before sunrise pays off. As evidence, I offer another image captured last Saturday morning (6/18/11).
This is a pre-sunrise view of the lighthouse and pier that extends into Lake Michigan at Kewaunee, WI. This was taken a little before 5 am. I was on the small beach just south of the pier.

Stopped by the Sunrise
As soon as I got up this morning, I headed to the beach in Kewaunee, WI. I thought this might be a good morning for some sunrise photos of the Kewaunee’s lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan. I got plenty of good images.
In this shot, someone, on an early morning walk (shortly after 5 am) along the pier, stops to take in the beautiful sunrise. I’m not positive, but I think they had a camera and were taking pictures.

Kewaunee’s Premium Blend
The best part of waking up… The sky provided a blend of beautiful colors, layered from the red of the sun on the horizon to the blue, high in the early morning sky.
I made my way to the shore of Lake Michigan – to the Kewaunee, WI beach – to catch a 5:40 am sunrise on the morning of Saturday, April 30, 2011.
It’s interesting to see the different transformations that the sky goes through in the course of a half hour sunrise. For a different look of the same sunrise, see my previous post “Morning Beam.”

Winter Beach
Of all the images you’ll find in my Flickr Photostream, this is one that has been viewed and commented on more than most.
This is a view of Lake Michigan at the the Algoma, WI beach on March 4, 2007. I was heading to the church early in the morning and stopped, as I often do, to snap a few pictures. It was at the tail-end of a snow storm and, though you can’t see it, snow was still blowing quite a bit. I remember it being miserable outside.

Winter Lighthouse – Algoma, WI
This is pier light at the entrance of the Algoma, WI harbor. This is a photo taken in March of 2007 using my old camera. That camera did some pretty good work.
