Flight At the Museum
The Air Racing and Aerobatics Gallery at the EAA AirVenture Museum displays an outstanding and colorful collection of classic air racers and high-flying stunt planes. The cool part is, these are the actual, history making aircraft. Many of them hang from the ceilings. Along with the planes, there are tons of trophies and memorabilia. The museum is located in Oshkosh, WI.

Attention Grabbing
Something’s captured her attention. This is our granddaughter at the age of wonder and development. She’s learning more about the world around her and how to navigate it. At this stage, she was just learning to sit up on her own. I love the stabilizing grip she has on the afghan behind her.

Paper Kite
This beautiful, high-contrast butterfly is known by the name, Paper Kite. It’s technical name is Idea Leuconoe. The name game doesn’t stop there, either. It’s also called a Wood Nymph butterfly, Large Tree Nymph butterfly or simply, Rice Paper butterfly.
The Paper Kite has a weak, fluttery flight interspersed with gliding due to the high ratio of their wing-size to body-size. You would think, with their bright color and bold pattern, they would easily fall victim to predators, but like monarch butterflies, they are poisonous or highly unpalatable and are not often attacked.
The Paper Kite’s natural territory is Southeast Asia. Apparently, it is a common resident in butterfly greenhouses and live butterfly expositions. I found this one at the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure in Branson, MO.

Garden Grapes
We ought to do good to others as simply as a horse runs, or a bee makes honey, or a vine bears grapes season after season without thinking of the grapes it has borne. – Marcus Aurelius
It looks like a colorful, flavorful, abundant harvest. I photographed these ripening clusters of grapes on an September day in rural Missouri with the lingering effects of an early morning dew still clinging to the fruit.

Fall In the Creek
A serene scene of natural beauty. Colorful autumn leaves blanketed the ground and floated by on a gently flowing Wisconsin woodland stream.
This is an image from last fall in the woods across the field from our home. A very peaceful, highly enjoyable morning in the woods.

Indoor Aerobatics
Look up! Above the lobby of the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, WI you will find three acrobatic aircraft hanging from the ceiling. These are not models. They are the original, full-size aircraft – the famous Christen Eagle I stunt planes – flown by the U.S. Aerobatic Team that won the 1972 World Aerobatic Championship. The Christen Eagle I was built specifically for the Eagles Aerobatic Team.
You can learn more about these iconic, colorful aircraft at the EAA website.

Monarch Squadron
All three of these monarch butterflies are in flight. They were circling, and eventually landing and feeding on, the purple asters in a vacant field near the building where I work.
I didn’t see a lot of butterflies this year, but when I did, it was all within a few weeks at the end of the summer. This photo was taken in late September.
In the interest of full disclosure, you should know this is a composite image. I combined three separate photos – each with one butterfly – to create this image of three butterflies. They were all photographed exactly as you see them…in the location that you see them…just at different moments.

Mushrooms On Wood
On a hike through the autumn woods, I thought it was odd to find these mushrooms growing out of a fallen tree. (Or are they toad stools?) In any case, they intrigued me.

Fall Floral Outburst
These festive wildflowers were growing on a bush at the edge of our property. I don’t know what kind of flowers (or weed) they are, but they were some of the last blooms of the fall.

Inclined to Fall
This fall scene was spotted in the waning days of a Wisconsin autumn…the days when more leaves were on the ground than on the trees.
