High Flying Five
These vintage Navy planes were part of the air show at this year’s E.A.A. AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI. I think it would be very cool to fly with a group like this.
I’m not positive about the type of aircraft, but I think some might be the North American SNJ-4, an advanced trainer for WWII aviators. (It was also called the T-6, the AT-6, and the Texan.)

Gold Fusion
The morning light provided a beautiful scene for a lone fisherman next to the lighthouse on Kewaunee’s pier.

Shades of Dawn
The morning clouds were thick enough to obscure the rising sun but light enough to create a stunning, luminescent backdrop for the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier on the western shore of Lake Michigan.

Fini
“Fini” means “The End” in the French language. It’s the perfect title for this breathtaking view last Friday evening. The brightest point at the bottom of the frame is the last bit of sun slipping behind the clouds.
My wife, Sara and I were driving home from a very enjoyable day of just spending time together. As we talked, we both noticed the stunning sunset. I held off as long as I could before I had to pull over, grab the camera out of it’s case in the back seat and snap a few frames.
I typically try to include something of interest in the foreground of sunset photos (an old tree, the silhouette of a building, etc.), but the clouds and the color were amazing enough on their own. (At least, I thought so.)

Sundown Bay
A couple of months ago my wife and I took a few days away in Door County. On our first evening, we made our way to the shore of Green Bay to catch the sunset. The low clouds added a bit of drama to an, otherwise, calm day’s end.

Lakeside Sedation
The pre-sunrise calm of the Lake Michigan shoreline can have a calming effect. This is an early morning view from the beach at Kewaunee, Wisconsin.

Dawn’s Early Flight
On the morning I took this photo, it was a calm and slowly brightening scene. I was focused on capturing the color in the clouds behind the lighthouse.
A large number of seagulls were resting on the pier running perpendicular to the lighthouse, apparently having spent the night there.
For no particular reason, they began to take off and I simply clicked the shutter several times as they inserted themselves into the scene.

Winging It
Something you don’t see every day…unless you’re talking about the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
This is the high-flying duo of Gene Soucy (pilot) and Teresa Stokes (wing walker) that flew to the delight and amazement of airshow spectators on Saturday, August 3, 2013.
Though I live less than two hours drive from Oshkosh, I’d never been to an EAA AirVenture – an annual aviation convention/extravaganza. I decided this would be the year. Amazing doesn’t begin to describe the experience. I was blessed to be there on a perfect day, weather wise, and was able to snap a number of great photos. (Watch for future posts.)

Morning Blush
Of all the photos I have of local lighthouse, I’ve never made it up to Sturgeon Bay to visit their lighthouse. Last weekend my wife and I were on a little getaway in Door County so Sunday morning, I got up well before sunrise and found my way to the lighthouse.
This is an early shot before the sun broke the horizon, when the sky first began to blush behind the Sturgeon Bay, WI lighthouse, on the western shore of Lake Michigan.

June Rainbow
This was a rainbow that popped up on an early, mid-June evening. If you squint, you can kind of see a second band in the upper right corner.
I should have processed it earlier, but just got around to processing it. I remember, when photographing it, being disappointed that I couldn’t get the whole rainbow in one frame. It was very tall in the sky.
