Heartwarming Cold Morning
A serene sunrise spreads warm hues above an icy Lake Michigan shore where the Kewaunee Wisconsin lighthouse holds its position at the end of a long pier.
The bare tree branches framing the top left corner of the scene adds a touch of nature to the tranquil, winter morning. This photo was taken almost ten years ago. Current visitors will notice the lack of any trees in this area of the shoreline.

A Distant Hope
In the midst of winter, beyond the horizon is hope for a brighter and warmer future. This is a winter sunrise view of the Kewaunee, WI pier and lighthouse – located on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
This is a view from the winter of 2014. This was taken from the shore, above the beach.
I was in the mood for a sunrise but the conditions have not afforded me much of an opportunity to a good one lately, so I browsed the archives and found this worthy contender. You can view another another image that was taken earlier the same morning. I titled it, “Icing On the Lake”

Icing On the Lake
When temperatures drop on Lake Michigan, the ice begins to form and coat anything it contacts.
This is a sunrise view of the lighthouse and pier at Kewaunee, WI – on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
That rock in the foreground isn’t actually a rock. It is an ice formation created by snow/ice breaking away from the shore and being trapped in the ice a few feet from shore.

Cold Pastels
Though colorful, there was little warmth to be gained by this winter sunrise over Lake Michigan. This view features the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier.

Night Watch Ending
This was a glorious Sunday morning on the shore of Lake Michigan at Kewaunee, Wisconsin. This is a pre-sunrise shot. The colors were so vivid, I actually had to pull back the saturation. Even so it still may seem a little over done.

Winter Blues
As you know, winter has been reluctant to release its grip on Northeast Wisconsin. This is a scene that reminds me of the battle between warmth and cold. The cold seems to be winning, preventing the sun from having its full effect. We’re all believing for the sun to triumph, the ice and snow to melt and warmer summer breezes to induce the gentle sound of waves on Lake Michigan’s shore.
