Girl
To Impress the Girl
For all of human history, boys have worked hard to impress the girls. This youngster is taking his impressionistic art form to new heights. Sticking the landing is taking all his powers of concentration.
I love the look on both their faces. If you look closely, you can see that both have their tongues sticking out. I enjoy the intensity on his face and the look of admiration on hers.
And now…the rest of the story. These youngsters are our grandchildren and the boy is not trying to impress the girl (his sister), he’s trying to impress his visiting grandparents. I just happened to be trying out a new camera. It takes awhile to get used to a new camera and lens. I certainly liked the early results.

Sweet Ride
This sweetie was enjoying her backyard swing set. The wind-tossed hair makes this a captivating image for me.
I took this photo from about 70 feet away, just sitting and watching the grandchildren having fun on a sunny, breezy, early spring afternoon.

Be Anxious for Nothing
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – – Philippians 4:6-6
This is a photo I took of one of the grands. She had such a carefree attitude I thought it would make a good image for this scripture.

Wondersome One
This darling seemed to have a look of serious thought the moment this image was snapped.
This is an image from a child portrait photo shoot. This is not the photo I would expect the parents to choose as a favorite, but it is one of my favorites from the session because of the child’s expression. To me, it conveys innocence and wonderment with a twinge of uncertainty. I also enjoy the vivid colors, the wispy curls of hair above this cutie’s ears and her holding the blade of grass.
This was a quick, portrait session. We had a baby. We had a rural setting on a spring day. We simply added a colorful blanket and found a spot in the grass with an open field and distant tree line for a background.

Tuesday’s Child
They say… “Tuesday’s child is full of grace.” This child seems to be blessed with full measure of grace and a double measure of cuteness.
This is what I consider a candid portrait; where I simply follow the subject as they roam around snapping frames while they do whatever they would normally do. Using this approach, you end up snapping a lot of pictures trying to find a good pose or compelling expression. With a child this young, you usually won’t have much success trying to get them to pose.

Considering the Next Move
,
With the look on her face I can’t help but wonder, what was she thinking at the moment this photo was snapped.
This image was taken during an afternoon with family in Ohio. Our granddaughter was away from the group, exploring the surroundings at a park. As you can see, I was keeping my eye (and focus) on her and snapping photos.

Sugar and Spice
What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s what little girls are made of.
This is a portrait of one of our granddaughters. We were blessed to have an opportunity to spend a little time with her and her parents recently.
Of course, whenever we have the pleasure of visits with any of the grandchildren, I usually try and grab a few photos. After this visit, as we were driving home, I told my wife I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to get any good photos of our granddaughter. When I downloaded the day’s images to my computer I was delighted to find this gem. This is the only decent image I captured of her on this visit, but it’s a definite keeper.

Early Adoration
At this stage, it’s hard to gain and keep their attention. I was able to captivate her…and she captivated me…for this brief moment.
This image of our newest grandchild was snapped on a recent, holiday weekend visit.
At this age, there’s not a lot of going on. She’s just beginning to notice activity around her, just beginning to smile.

On the Line
Bright Eyes
On a trip to Green Bay’s Botanical Gardens, hidden among the foliage, I happened upon this precious, delicate flower. I believe, among all the beauty of the gardens, this was the best image I captured that day.
It’s taken me some time to post this photo because it took a lot of work to present what you see now. What you don’t see, from the original, is a triangle-shaped shadow that ran from her eye, across her nose, to her lip – created by the leaf near her eye. You also don’t see the tripod and jacket on the ground that was protruding from behind her head. Obviously, this wasn’t a planned, posed shot, but an on-the-fly capture.
This is my friend, Lindsey. She has the personality to go along with those dimples and smile.
