Tulip Time
Vibrant tulips in shades of white, yellow, red, and orange bloom during Tulip Time in Pella, IA.
This is a photo I found on my hard drive from a springtime visit to Pella a few years ago. If you like photographing flowers, Tulip Time in Pella offers a spectacular display of color and variety. This year, Tulip Time in Pella is May 2nd through the 4th.

Brazenly Delicate
This red tulip seemed to be taking a bold stand among another group of purple and white tulips. This is another flower I captured a couple of years ago at the annual Tulip Festival held in Pella, Iowa.
Deep red colors, like this tulip, can be a challenge for photographers because most cameras have a tendency to over-saturate the red and the image will loose all it’s detail; it can turn out looking like one big blob of red, with no texture or definition. Most of my post processing on this image was working to control the red.

Ladies In Red
If you’re looking for springtime beauty with vivid color, it’s hard to beat tulips. These unique, deep red beauties, surrounded by a sea of pink, yellow-fringed tulips were photographed during the annual Tulip Festival in Pella, Iowa.
I struggled with this image. I spent a lot of time trying to get the five red tulips to stand out from the background. The colors are close enough, it’s hard to distinguish the detail of the foreground from the blur of the background. I’m not sure I achieved the separation I wanted the average viewer to experience. I’ve looked at it so much, I can no longer be objective. You’ll have to decide and let me know your first impression.
