Fire in the Sky
This is one of my favorite photos, taken a few years ago with my Kodak EasyShare DX7590.
My wife and I had just settled in on the sofa to watch a DVD when I noticed some color in the sky out my living room window. I had to pause the video and run outside with my camera to capture a few frames of this beauty. A wider version from the same shoot is below.
About being left on the sofa in “pause” mode, my wife simply said, “I kinda thought this was going to happen.” She knows me well.

Fading Fast
Out of the four worthwhile images I captured in this series, this is the one with the warmest tones. Even the snow-covered field looks a little warmer.
This is the last of the series. Even though all of these images were captured within a half hour on the evening of February 13th, they show a surprising amount of variety. If I weren’t the one who took them, I’d think they were from different sunsets.

Subtle Sunset
The combination of setting sun and layered clouds create an enjoyable view.

Serenity Wow
This image strikes me as the perfect end to a peaceful day.

Drama Scene
My thought, while taking this photo was, “My, that’s an angry looking sky.” It looks very dramatic but, in reality, it was a very peaceful finish to a warmer than usual winter day.

Morning Moonset
The moon has been beautiful the last few days. I was finally able to capture a shot about 6:30 this morning as it was slowly slipping behind the trees. I was set up on my driveway, shooting across the farm field west of our home.
The moon was so bright, you can see where it melted the snow. (Of course, I’m just kidding.)
I was using my 300mm lens and had my Sony SLT-A55 on a tripod.
Of Days Gone By
This is a building on the beach (notice the sand) lining the shore of Lake Michigan in Kewaunee, WI. I snapped this while sitting in a canoe on the lake. I’ve added a little bit of Photoshop enhancement. The original image was taken in September, 2006.

Shining Star of Kewaunee
A night view of the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse – on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
A couple of weeks ago, I took a night photo of this same scene I entitled Kewaunee Night-House. There wasn’t much to see, because the lighthouse light overpowered the image.
I decided to try again. This time, in order to brighten the house and balance the bright light, I shined a 2,000,000 candle power spotlight on the lighthouse for about 10 seconds of a 30-second exposure.
This photo was taken from the parking lot of Kewaunee’s beach. I used a 300mm lens on my Sony SLT-A55 stabilized on a tripod inside the open side door of my Dodge Caravan.
I like this image better, but still feel there’s more work to do.
Cloud Bank Background
When I take photos, I usually take a lot. Then I load them on to my computer and pick out one or two that I like and share them. All the other images from that day are still on my computer. When things are slow – photography wise – I’ll look through some of those photos I passed on the first time around and see if there’s something worth bringing out.

This photograph is one taken in 2009 using my old Kodak EasyShare DX7590. It is the Kewaunee Lighthouse. The lighthouse is actually a supporting actor. I think the clouds are the real star and makes this image a keeper for me. The flock of birds provide a nice accent.
As I often do with photos that don’t quite dazzle me on their own, I added a digital effect to this one using a Photoshop filter.
