Maple Leaf
Spring Maple Sprouts
A cluster of red maple leaves sprout out of the rough bark of the tree’s trunk. Their color gives the impression of fall, but this is new growth in April.
These are leaves that I photographed on a hike through the Bluff Woods Conservation Area, located south of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Deep Red Down
A bright, red maple leaf found its final resting place on the white stripe of a wet, city parking lot. The contrast in colors and textures caught my eye.
This is a rare posting from my cell phone’s camera. I don’t usually post cellphone photos because I prefer the higher quality of my DLSR, but I didn’t have my DSLR with me.
I was in Appleton for work and had just finished a quick lunch at a Panda Express. It was a cool, gray, drizzly day. While leaving the restaurant, I noticed this bright spot on the ground next to my vehicle. The only camera I had with me was my Samsung S6 cellphone. The leaf was resting on a stripe of the parking lot.

Maple Uprising
This tiny maple sapling is rising up from the crowded forest floor, determined to make a place for itself in the world. Springtime renewal is emerging in Northeast Wisconsin.

Autumn Remnants
Some of the final remnants of the autumn of 2014. This fall arrangement was found, perfectly lit, on a hike through woods not far from our rural Wisconsin home.

Autumn Blues
I’ve really enjoyed the fall colors this season. One morning I spent time in the woods just photographing leaves on the ground. While I’m looking for amazing colors and interesting patterns, I came across these berries reclining on a burgundy blanket. I’m pretty sure these are not the edible blueberries we love.
The rich contrast between the blue of the berries and the deep red of the maple leaf make this a photo a favorite in my autumn collection.
It looks even cooler in the larger version because you can see tiny moisture beads on the berries. Click on the photo to see what I’m talking about.
