Purple
Segregated Spring

The tulips were brilliant at the Scholte House gardens. We visited there during the 2015 Tulip Festival in Pella, IA.

Wild Kiss of Spring

One of the great joys I have is roaming through the woods in early spring, searching for the season’s first blooms. A few days ago, Sara and I took a hike in search of mushrooms and, of course, I had my camera. There was little in bloom, but these little beauties were a delightful find.

Kewaunee Morning Hues

It’s hard to rival the beautiful colors of a Kewaunee, Wisconsin sunrise. This is an image I captured just before sunrise yesterday morning.
Kewaunee is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan.

Subtle Awakening
The Kewaunee, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier stand ready to greet the sun as it rises above the Lake Michigan horizon.
I love the way the light dances on the beach with the gentle rhythm of the calm, early morning waves. The clouds above add another layer of flavorful light.

It looks like a colorful, flavorful, abundant harvest. I photographed these ripening clusters of grapes on an September day in rural Missouri with the lingering effects of an early morning dew still clinging to the fruit.

Reclining Monarch
This is a butterfly common to our neighborhood and most of North America. This is the much-loved monarch butterfly. I found this one on a cool morning, perched among some purple asters growing wild in a field. Because of the early, cool conditions, this monarch was moving slow and the asters hadn’t opened yet.
