Sudden Outbreak of Spring
On a recent hike, we stumbled across this delightful display of early spring wildflowers. These were the first wildflowers of the season we encountered. We found a few other wildflowers along the trail, but they were very sparse. In a few days, the trail will have many more of these and other varieties.

April Awakening
A very calming morning scene on Lake Michigan as the sun prepares to rise behind the lighthouse and pier at Kewaunee, Wisconsin. This morning’s sun has a “tell” for exactly where it will breach the horizon. That little pink area to the right of the lighthouse is marking the spot where the sun will appear.

Spring Blooming Crocus
These are the first flowers I’ve been able to photograph this spring. The Crocus is possibly the earliest of all early, spring bloomers. I found this nice clump at the N.E.W. Zoo.

Petal Power
These tiny flowers (and the ones in the background) are just the bit of cheerful color I needed while plodding through another bitter cold Wisconsin winter day. Hope it adds a bit of sprint-time warmth to your day.

A Little Lavender
These lilac blooms smell even better than they look. They bloom each summer in our back yard.

Cheerful Disposition
I believe I used to know the name of this flower, but it eludes me at the moment. It is one of the common wildflowers found along the woodland trails of Wisconsin. You can view a larger, more detailed version of this image by clicking on it.
Soft Allure
I was early for an appointment. While waiting, I pulled out my camera and snapped a few photos of the flowers in a flowerbed outside the meeting location.
This is why I advise photographers to keep their cameras close by. You never know when a photographic opportunity will present itself. You won’t be able to take advantage of an opportunity every time it arrives – I’m always seeing scenes I wish I could pause to capture. So, often circumstances don’t allow it, but occasionally they will. If you don’t have your camera with you, you will always miss it.

Shuttlecock
The shape of this cosmos, in the processes of opening up, reminded me of a badminton shuttlecock. Of course, it’s the back-lighting that brings a richness to the color and texture of this simple wildflower.

Technicolor Throne
This skipper moth was overlooking the splendor of his kingdom from the comfort of his technicolor throne, a purple cone flower.
This is a photo taken on our recent vacation. This image came from a flowerbed just outside the gift shop of the Topeka Zoo. While the rest of our party went to look through the shop, I stayed outside to snap more photos.

When the Deep Purple Falls
The Kewaunee, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier are framed by an unusual sky as the sun rises over Lake Michigan.
The sky was an odd color…but I might have taken a little liberty with the processing.
