A Flair for the Dramatic
This wildflower seems to have a touch of graceful sophistication in its “wild.” A few of these beauties popped up on the edge of our property this summer. This bloom was the only one that demonstrated this particular flair for the dramatic.

Upward Call
The sea gulls soar upward as the sun beams stream downward over Lake Michigan and the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier. Since the colors were somewhat muted, I decided to convert this one to a monochrome look.

Lucky Rabbit’s Foot
A small, wild bunny took a moment for a little personal grooming. It was giving special attention to cleaning it’s back foot.
I spotted this little guy between rows in a flower garden. It let me take several shots, like it didn’t care that I was there, and then, all of the sudden, it scurried off to cover.

Red Velvet Morning
Like red velvet rippling in the sky, the clouds above Lake Michigan contributed to a dramatic sunrise behind the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse.

Pelicans On Blue
There seem to be more pelicans hanging around the lake shore than I remember in years past. These birds were gracefully gliding by in the early morning light.

Foggy River
On my way to the Lake Michigan shore…just around the bend from my house…I cross the Kewaunee river. As I was returning home after shooting a sunrise over the lake, I stopped to snap a few of the river.
There is often a hint of fog in the cool, low lying areas of the river, but this morning there was more than usual and the warmth of the still rising sun (just out of the frame on the right) added a great quality to the scene.
Fog is always cool but, I think, one of the more challenging situations to photograph. I find it very difficult to capture in the camera what the eye can see. Even when you can snag a cool scene like this, it still lacks the actual experience.

Budding Artist
These wildflowers were found on a hike through the woods. It looks like plenty of blooms were in its future.

Baby Steps
On its first day exploring the world above ground, this juvenile ground squirrel stands tall on its hind legs to get the best view possible.
We’ve been watching a pair of ground squirrels scurrying around our yard since last fall. I suspected they might be up to something.

High Five Fly By
This female ruby-throated hummingbird seemed to be offering (and expecting) a high-five as she zipped by.
I finally got around to taking some hummingbird photos yesterday. I’m a bit rusty at the high-speed skills it takes to snap one of these. I’ll have to get out there more.
