Emerging from the Darkness
Soon, the snow will fade from the forest floor and the trees will wake from their winter slumber and begin to sprout new life. These are early spring sprouts from a couple of years ago. I photographed them in a wooded area late in the afternoon, when a combination of light and shadow created a wonderfully dramatic effect.

Cheerful Disposition
I believe I used to know the name of this flower, but it eludes me at the moment. It is one of the common wildflowers found along the woodland trails of Wisconsin. You can view a larger, more detailed version of this image by clicking on it.
Just Peachy
This trio of tulips were outstanding in their field. Nothing says, “Spring” like a vibrant patch of tulips!
I thought a bit of color would bring some life to the dead of winter.

Of Tulips Past
These tulips have long past, but their memory lives on in digital form. Long live the tulips!
As you can see from the cropped, color image of this same stand of tulips on the right, they were two-toned in color – not your typical red or yellow. Ironically, I thought the unique, contrasting colors made them good candidates for a monochrome treatment.
To me, the detail in the petals are much more interesting in a higher contrast B&W. In fact, I think this would make an impressive, large print. May have to do that.

Sisterhood
These are delicate wildflowers found on an early spring walk through the woods.

Coming Attractions
At the very beginning of their blooming season, these daylilies show a lot of potential. Each year these wild beauties grow, and faithfully bloom, around a utility pole on our rural Wisconsin property.

Bodacious!
My wife’s flowerbeds add a variety of shapes and colors to our yard. These bold, red lilies seem to be in their prime and showing off.

Shuttlecock
The shape of this cosmos, in the processes of opening up, reminded me of a badminton shuttlecock. Of course, it’s the back-lighting that brings a richness to the color and texture of this simple wildflower.

House Sitting House Wren
I happened to catch this house wren sitting in the doorway of its home, but it wasn’t there long. I was constantly swooping in and out to bring insects to the babies inside.

This bird was photographed on a recent trip to northwest Missouri. We’ve not been able to attract an wrens to nest in a similar house we have in our yard in northeast Wisconsin.

House Wren Spider Snack
This house wren was busy taking fresh food to its babies nestled in the tiny birdhouse hanging in this tree. If you look closely at the snack in its beak, this particular morsel was a spider.
This little cutie was captured in rural Missouri.
