Beyond the Veil
The sun had risen well above the Lake Michigan horizon, but the clouds, acting as a veil, kept its full glory from illuminating the Algoma, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier.
I really like the subtlety of texture and light behind the thin clouds and the blue hues of early morning.

Grassland Lighthouse
In a few moments, the sun will rise in the middle of this image. Before the blinding light breaches the horizon, the clouds create a dramatic background.
I’ve taken countless photos of this lighthouse and decided to take a lower angle. I lowered my tripod to just a foot or so above the ground – shooting through the beach grass.

Catching Some Waves
Two fishing buddies are casting for the early bite from the pier at Kewaunee, WI. The waves seemed particularly excited to see the sun that morning.

Lighthouse Eclipse
The sun is rising in this scene, however, you can’t see it because it is positioned directly behind the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse. The colors are bright and vivid, creating a unique atmosphere. The light of the lighthouse looks like it’s shining brightly, but it’s not from its own electric light; it’s the sun’s illumination. I particularly like the play of light on the water created by the low angle of the sun.
A few days ago, I posted another photo from this same location and angle. I processed it as the black and white image – Powerful Peace. They are similar images, but taken a day apart.

Sprig of Pearls
Autumn is wrapping up in our area – as far as colorful foliage goes. These white berries stand out next to the normally green leaves of this plant I found on the edge of a wooded area.
I spent a good deal of time trying to identify this plant. I wasn’t able to find anything I could be confident to share. It seems to be a common plant in our area.

Hope On the Horizon
The best colors of the morning sky happen a little before sunrise. This is the view, from the south pier, of the Algoma, Wisconsin harbor and lighthouse. In a few minutes, the sun will rise over Lake Michigan.

Morning Rest
As the sun was rising over lake Michigan it appeared to pause for a moment’s rest on the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse.
This seems like the perfect Autumn color scheme, but this photo was taken last May.

Shoreline Stroll
Just before sunrise is the perfect time for strolling along the Lake Michigan shoreline. In the distance rests the Kewaunee lighthouse and pier.

Colors of Calm
The sky was interesting enough to warrant a wide, panoramic view. This, of course, is the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse with a beautiful background provided by the wispy clouds and the sun rising over Lake Michigan.
These are the kind of mornings I wait for, when I’m looking for a sunrise to photograph. Haven’t had the opportunity to catch one like this in awhile. This one was taken the morning of September 6, 2013.

Fiery Fungi
This was a great find on the forest floor at Potawatomi State Park, near Sturgeon Bay on Wisconsin’s Door County peninsula. I don’t know what kind of mushroom this is, but it sure stood out among the dead pine needles and other decaying matter.
