Threatening Skies
The skies look threatening over this rural Kewaunee County, Wisconsin farm house. As it turned out, the sky’s bark was worse than it’s bite. As evening set in, there was plenty of lightening all around, and storms in the distance but no real storm resulted here, just a bit of rain.

Flame On
A crew works to add the hot air to this hot air balloon. Standing this close to that flame, the heat becomes a bit uncomfortable. This crew was taking part in the Balloon Rally during the Hamburger Festival in Seymour, WI August 3, 2012.
Because I was close – taking photos like this – when the balloon began to rise from the ground, they asked me to join the crew holding the basket, adding my weight to keep the balloon from lifting off.

Packed House
This is a field of sunflowers in full bloom. Just imagine what a difficult jigsaw puzzle this image would make.
I titled this one “Packed House” because it reminds me of people in a crowded theater as seen from the stage.

Balloon Glow 1
We went to Seymour, Wisconsin yesterday for their annual Hamburger Festival and Balloon Rally. Just as we were leaving, I spun around to catch this view of hot air balloons firing up the burners to show off their colors.
Seymour lays claim to being the home of the hamburger – invented there in 1885. The festival and balloon rally continue today (August 4th, 2012) if you’re looking for something to do. There’s no admission charge to the Balloon Rally. Learn more at http://homeofthehamburger.org/.
I’ll be posting more photos of this event in the days to come, so stay tuned.

Lighthouse Companion
A full moon rising over Lake Michigan was a complimentary, short-term companion to the lighthouse at Kewaunee. Moments after this image was taken, the moon slipped behind some clouds. Kewaunee, Wisconsin is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan.

Queen’s Morning
Yesterday morning started with a light blanket of fog. As the sun pushed it’s way up through the foggy horizon, it created a nice silhouette of some Queen Anne’s Lace that grows at the edge of the field of oats that is next to lawn of our country home.

Kewaunee Lighthouse at Sunrise
This is one of my earliest photos. It was taken with a primitive (by today’s standards) consumer-grade,5mp digital camera. It was capturing photos like this that made me want to take more.
I was going fishing in on Lake Michigan in my canoe, putting in from the beach at Kewaunee. When I arrived, before sunrise, this is the scene I found. The clouds had such an unusual quality I decided to try and get a photo. There wasn’t much light and I didn’t have a tripod, so to steady the camera I held it on top of a post by the parking lot. As you can see, that worked well.
I don’t remember if I caught any fish that day, but I will always remember that sky. By the way, I wasn’t the only one there to fish that morning. If you look close, you can see two fishermen on the end of the pier.

Morning Dangler
I found this monarch butterfly clinging to the underside of a purple coneflower in a meadow very early morning. It was obvious, this is where it spent the night. It was still in sleep-mode when I photographed it. I was able to nudge it without it flying off. I eventually coaxed it to the top of the flower and posted a photo of that earlier ( see it here: Monarch of the Meadow)
For a little different feel, I added a bit of texture to this one.

Center of the Cosmos
This bee was about some serious bee work on the center of a purple cosmos flower. I don’t recall seeing this particular type of bee before – with white hair, orange antennae and a yellowish-green eye. However, this year I’ve photographed several.
