Doing its best to blend in with the simple beauty of this wildflower, a stealthy crab spider awaits an unsuspecting victim.
I love watching the viewers reaction to shots like this. At first you see the beauty of the flower. An instant later, your brain registers the spider. How did you respond?

Luminescent Leaves
I really like the warm color, the shape, the lines and the texture of these autumn leaves. The brighter light behind them gives them a unique quality.
In the autumn, I spent a lot of time taking photos of the colorful leaves covering the woodland floor. This is one occasion when I pointed the camera upward. This image doesn’t accurately convey the weather conditions at the time this shot was snapped. It looks like a sunny fall day, but it was actually overcast with a very fine mist/drizzle in the air. I guess my camera had a brighter perspective.

Charmed
I found these charming wildflowers flourishing along a Lake Michigan beach. I don’t know what species they are but they seem to be rather common in our area.

Floral Fuzz
This is a wildflower that I found sprouting among the weeds that grow on the edges of our rural Wisconsin yard. The fuzziness of the edges caught my eye.
I don’t know what kind of flower this is, but I think it is an early version of the type you can see in aother post I titled Sun and Stars.

Right at Home
This soldier bug seemed snug as a bug…in a marigold. These flowers are part of a potted arrangement my wife, Sara, put together to brighten up our driveway.

In Praise of Yellow
On a recent hike through the woods, I was delighted to find a variety of wildflowers. These are some of my favorites from that day.
The one flower seems to be raising a hand in praise of the creator. (Or, maybe just hoping to get noticed.)

American Beauty
This female American Goldfinch was kind enough to pose for a portrait shot. This is an image I found in my archive; something I took a couple of years ago. It must of gotten lost in the shuffle.

Simple Spring
While walking through a swampy area of woods, I stumbled upon this simple, single flower. The bright area behind the flower is daylight reflecting off a wet area. I don’t know what kind of flower it was, but it was small. This bloom was only about the size of a thumbnail.

Spring Classic
These white-accented, yellow tulips were part of the amazing spring display at West of the Lake Gardens in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
I got a lot of great photos on this visit – a couple I’ve already posted (Glorious Spring and Garden Torches) – and will be posting more in the near future.
I’m looking forward to another visit, later in the season, to see what other beauties they have blooming. There is not charge to visit the gardens.
