Strolling Through the Weeds
A young boy, with a contemplative look, strolls through the tall grasses and weeds of an rural farm field.
I don’t often get to shoot photos of people, but when I do, it tends to be close friends or family. I just don’t have the time in my schedule to set up portrait sessions and the work of post processing. In this case, I got to spend some time with this three -year-old cutie – my grandson. Just the two of us took a little walk in the country…with my camera, of course.
I wasn’t really intending to grab a shot of him. We were just out for a stroll while Papa (what he calls me) looked for interesting things to photograph. We looked for birds and pretty leaves, talked about, walked over a dry creek bed. The perfect subject eluded us.
It was a tough time to shoot – mid day, under a bright sun. I didn’t find much that caught my eye. So, naturally, on the walk back I turned the camera on the most interesting thing I could find.
Because of the overpowering contrast created by that bright sun, I thought the best treatment for this shot was to convert it to a monochrome image. I think it turned out well. In fact, one of my all time favorites. (Of course, that’s from the Grandpa in me as much as the artist.)

Packers Wall of Fame
An impressive display honoring inductees into the newly renovated Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
This is just one side of the inductees display that line the walls of the new Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The gold footballs are engraved with the name and likeness of the player as well as the date of their induction into the Hall of Fame. In the lower right corner of this image is the gold football honoring, Earl “Curly” Lambeau, founder, player, and first coach of the Green Bay Packers.

Bejeweled Begonia
This is an extreme close-up of a potted begonia I photographed at our home, after an early morning shower.
This is part of my experimentation with macro photography. This image was created using a technique to overcome the limited depth of field in macro photography known as focus stacking. This image is a blend of three separate photos – each focused on a different part of the flower. I think more experimentation is needed.

Evening at Pabst
An early evening view of the historic, Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin under a deepening night sky.
I’ve had this image hibernating on my hard drive for some time. I finally got around to processing it. I took it several months ago, when a Milwaukee area photographer friend showed me around the downtown area…after an enjoyable meal at Jackson’s, the restaurant located in the lower left corner of the Pabst building.
There’s some great detail in this image, which can be seen more clearly in the larger view you’ll see if you click on the photo.

Tree Dwellers
On a walk through the woods, I spotted this collection of mushrooms growing in the hollow of a large tree. I thought the colors, textures and just the oddity of mushrooms growing in a tree made it an interesting sight.

Peace Unto You
A beautiful September, Lake Michigan sunrise as viewed from the Algoma, Wisconsin harbor.
This is actually three individual photos I “stitched” together to make a wider, panoramic view.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to catch a nice sunrise behind the Algoma lighthouse. When I looked out the window and realized the sky might be cooperative, I packed up and headed out. I got there just in time and get several good images. Watch for more in the future.

Forest Friend
On a recent stroll through the woodlands of rural N.E. Wisconsin, I engaged in a prolonged staring contest with this Eastern Chipmunk. After viewing this photo, I declared myself the winner.
I spotted several of these little fellows who seemed to freeze the moment they saw me. I expect, they were hoping if they remained motionless, I wouldn’t notice them. I wonder how many of them I may have walked past and missed.
When I did see this guy, I stopped and took a photo. Then, as he remained motionless, I moved in a foot closer…and then another foot…and another – until he no longer could endure my intrusion into his personal space. Thankfully, he was more tolerant than I expected.

Cool Dude
A macro view of a cool dragon fly resting on the buds of a hosta plant in our flower bed. Those eyes remind me of aviator glasses. Seems like there should be a cigarette loosely dangling from his mouth.
