Sky Iris
It was a cold morning with 13-degrees Fahrenheit and patches of fog in our rural neighborhood. This was a scene that caught my eye that morning. I tried to sharpen the trees a bit but the fog in the air kept everything soft.
I titled it Sky Iris because the sun in the trees remind me of a pupil and the fog-induced aura, accentuated by the branches, remind me of an eye’s iris.

Quietude
Quietude
qui·e·tude, n, 1. a state of stillness, calmness, and quiet in a person or place.
It was a calm morning in Kewaunee, WI as the sun began its assent over Lake Michigan, beyond the pier and lighthouse.

Morning Break
The gentle waves and pre-sunrise glow created a relaxing experience on the shores of Lake Michigan near the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier.

Warming Glow
As the sun rises over Lake Michigan behind the Kewaunee, WI pier and lighthouse, it creates a warming backdrop for the fisherman.

Watercolor Sky
A wonderful morning of watercolor tones at the Algoma, WI lighthouse and harbor. A perfect place to be for a peaceful start to the day. Of course, to see this beauty, you have to be willing to be there very early…before sunrise.

Steel Blue Sunrise
This was a magical moment. The sun was rising above a calm Lake Michigan. A few fishermen on the pier…a few geese overhead…with some very cool highlights adding definition to the background of low clouds.

Smartly Cloudy
These fluffy clouds had a unique quality – enhanced by a partially hidden sunrise. The bright, back-lighting created a sharp silhouette of the lighthouse and piers that mark and separate the Algoma, Wisconsin harbor from Lake Michigan.

The camera had a difficult time handling the full power of the morning sunrise at Kewaunee, WI. It was a blustery morning with strong winds and waves.
Normally, the blur created by seagulls flying in the upper left would bother me but, for some reason, I like them in this shot.

Beyond the Veil
The sun had risen well above the Lake Michigan horizon, but the clouds, acting as a veil, kept its full glory from illuminating the Algoma, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier.
I really like the subtlety of texture and light behind the thin clouds and the blue hues of early morning.

Grassland Lighthouse
In a few moments, the sun will rise in the middle of this image. Before the blinding light breaches the horizon, the clouds create a dramatic background.
I’ve taken countless photos of this lighthouse and decided to take a lower angle. I lowered my tripod to just a foot or so above the ground – shooting through the beach grass.
