Sunrise
Lighthouse Eclipse
The sun is rising in this scene, however, you can’t see it because it is positioned directly behind the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse. The colors are bright and vivid, creating a unique atmosphere. The light of the lighthouse looks like it’s shining brightly, but it’s not from its own electric light; it’s the sun’s illumination. I particularly like the play of light on the water created by the low angle of the sun.
A few days ago, I posted another photo from this same location and angle. I processed it as the black and white image – Powerful Peace. They are similar images, but taken a day apart.

Powerful Peace
Yesterday morning, I was at the lakeshore to capture a sunrise. The thick clouds keep the sun from view…until…
The bright sun finds it’s way through the heavy cloud cover over Lake Michigan as fishermen troll near the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse and pier.

Hope On the Horizon
The best colors of the morning sky happen a little before sunrise. This is the view, from the south pier, of the Algoma, Wisconsin harbor and lighthouse. In a few minutes, the sun will rise over Lake Michigan.
If you look at the larger version of this image, you’ll be able to see the glow of the familiar red light from the lighthouse. To view a larger version, click on the photo.
Morning Rest
Shoreline Stroll
It Begins
The earth begins to stir to as the sun lights up the horizon. This is the pre-sunrise image I captured yesterday morning.
To get all this sky into one image I had to take three individual shots and then combine them
This was how I saw it and captured it from my backyard. These are the kind of colors I want to photograph near the lake and lighthouses for, but on a work day I can’t make that happen. Sometimes you have to settle for what you can get and know, some other day, it will be different. Where were these clouds and color last Saturday?

Colors of Calm
The sky was interesting enough to warrant a wide, panoramic view. This, of course, is the Kewaunee, WI lighthouse with a beautiful background provided by the wispy clouds and the sun rising over Lake Michigan.
These are the kind of mornings I wait for, when I’m looking for a sunrise to photograph. Haven’t had the opportunity to catch one like this in awhile. This one was taken the morning of September 6, 2013.

Gold Fusion
Shades of Dawn
Solar Alignment
This is a case of being in the right place at the right time. The right place was the beach in Kewaunee, WI. The right time was just after sunrise on Saturday morning. I was able to capture the sun directly behind the light of the lighthouse.
The dominant cross pattern was created by a star filter I attached to my camera’s lens.
