Clipper Parthenos Sylvia Blue
This is a Clipper butterfly of the Parthenos Sylvia variety. The clippers, like this blue version, a nymphalid species.
The clipper is a fast flying butterfly whose habit of never fully raising its wings when flapping makes its flight look rather stiff and jerky. In between spurts of flapping it will gracefully glide.
These butterflies are typically found in South and South-East Asia. This beauty was photographed at The Butterfly Palace in Branson, MO.

Eye Contact
Caught a candid shot of my grandson, Sammy, while visiting a gift shop. He just celebrated his 2nd birthday. This photo was taken a couple of months earlier.
The unusual lighting for this image was provided by afternoon daylight coming in through a nearby store window.

Flock of Fungi
Our area received a lot of rain late summer to autumn. That provided favorable conditions for mushrooms. These are a just a few of the fungi bounty we discovered on a walk through Potawatomi Park near Sturgeon Bay, WI a few weeks ago.

Morning Smoke Signals
The dark, wispy clouds reminded me of puffs of smoke hanging over the Algoma, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier. This view was photographed last Sunday morning just before the sun emerged from behind the bank of low clouds to rise over Lake Michigan.

Red Leaf Landed
On its way down, this red maple leaf got a helping hand from a sturdy branch. Photographed in the woodlands of northeast Wisconsin.

Leaves In the Light
Some of the first leaves of autumn, basking in the limited fall sunlight. These were standouts, seen on a walk through in the woods a few weeks ago.

Monarch Flight
A monarch butterfly rises majestically above the patch of purple asters. I snapped this photo in a field next to my workplace. I’d been working on trying to catch the few monarchs I found in flight. Catching one in focus is a formidable challenge because of their erratic motion in flight. This is a view of the butterfly from behind, wings on the downward stroke.

Lake Spirits Rising
Wispy clouds, illuminated by the rising sun, provided an interesting backdrop to the Kewaunee, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier. Kewaunee is a small community on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
