Morning Orange

Sunrise, Lighthouse, Kewaunee, Seagull

You will find the Kewaunee, Wisconsin lighthouse perched on the end of a long pier. On the morning of this brilliant, orange sunrise, a seagull adds an additional point of interest as it soars gracefully by.

This is a ten-year-old image.  It was taken in June of 2014.  I had taken it, processed it, but, somehow, never posted it. I happened to find it this week and thought it was worthy of note. So, take note.  🙂  This photo doesn’t live up to the quality of my current work, but I think it is still worthy to be shared.  I hope the viewers agree.

This Side of Heaven

Chapel of the Ozarks, Top of the Rock, Branson,

The Chapel of the Ozarks overlooks beautiful Table Rock Lake. It is an attraction and wedding venue at Top of the Rock, Ridgedale, Missouri.

The promotional materials claim this stone chapel rests at the highest point in Taney County, Missouri.  The back wall of this chapel is a curved, floor to ceiling glass wall that provides a panoramic view of the lake and valley.

This is a panoramic image created by stitching two photos together to give you this wide view.

Adjusting to the Morning Light

Sunrise, Lake, Dock, Bass Lake, IN, Indiana

The clouds and the rising sun seem to be collaborating to provide the right balance of color and light. This is an early morning view of Bass Lake, Indiana in September.

I love the way the sunrise is illuminating the low, misty kind of clouds in the upper right half of this scene. Give me a lake with interesting clouds and a rising sun any day.

A Beautiful Capture

Lakota Lake, Lake, Reflection, Panorama

This is a panoramic view of Lakota Lake. This is a small lake in Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

We stumbled upon this calm, out-of-the-way lake while driving though the park.  This was one of my wife’s favorite spots at Custer State Park. She is the one on the shore taking photos of the beauty that she sent to her parents. This is a very wide image – a compilation of  five individual photos taken.

According to the US Forest Service, “Lakota Lake is located southeast of Keystone, SD, on US Highway 16A (Iron Mountain Road), within the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve. It is a small, non-motorized lake and a popular destination for fishing and kayaking. A hitchrail is provided for horses, along with access to Iron Creek Trail #15. Several picnic tables offer a scenic view of the lake. Lakota Lake Road was upgraded in fall 2021.”

Morning Lake Mist

Legion Lake, South Dakota, Mist, Lake, Reflection

This is an early morning view of Stockade Lake in West Custer Township of South Dakota. Stockade Lake is the largest of Custer State Park’s five lakes. This image was captured just before the sun rose over the trees.

Cloudy Colored Water

On the road between Kewaunee and Algoma, you will pass through Alaska, WI.  This small spot on the map has a nine-hole golf course and two small lakes – Alaska East and West.

This is an image from Alaska West.  I stopped there last Saturday on my way from Kewaunee to Algoma.  The clouds were somewhat expressive and I wondered if I could get a good reflection of them on the calm lake.

I posted a nearly identical black and white photo of the same scene a couple of days ago, titled Cloudy Water.  My wife and I debated over which was the better image…b&w or color.  I thought I’d settled on one but, as I compare them again while creating this post, I’m not so sure.

I’d be very interested to know what you think.  So, take a look at both and tell me which one would get your vote. For a good view of the b&w version click on the small image to the right. It will open a new tab in your browser with the original post.  Then you can easily go back and forth between the two tabs and compare.

Tell me which you like the best in the comment box below (on the color version).

Cloudy Water

Lake, Dock, B&W, Monochrome, Clouds, Reflection
It was an overcast Saturday morning and, on my way from Kewaunee to Algoma, I stopped at one of the twin lakes of Alaska, WI. My goal was to find a picturesque scene and capture the reflection of the clouds off the calm water.

This is West Alaska Lake. I took several shots – both B&W and color.  I’m not sure which I like best.  (I’ll post a color version in a few days.)
