Honorine Jobert Anemone

Honorine Jobert Anemone, White Flower, Flower, Anemone

The Honorine Jobert Anemone is a delicate white flower with orange anthers surrounding a spherical green center (ovule). They bloom in the fall.

This particular patch was incorporated into the landscaping at the Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon.  I visited there is October of 2022.

Hanging Tapestry

Butterfly, Eye Owl, Butterfly Palace

An owl eye butterfly rests on a branch, displaying the intricate patterns and eye-like spots on its wings. To me, is a beautiful artwork of pattern and color – like a detailed tapestry. This is one of the many varieties of butterflies cultivated and displayed at the Butterfly Palace in Branson, Missouri.

Fall Creeping Up

Vine, Tree, Fall Colors, Autumn

Autumn leaves in shades of red, orange, and green climb a tree trunk with rough, textured bark. This seemed like a nice mix texture and autumn hues which I captured on a hike through the woodlands of Branson, Missouri.

Summer’s End

Sunflower, Wilt, Orange, Flower

Two vibrant sunflowers with rich yellow and orange petals begin to wilt as the main stalk bows over signaling the end of Summer in northwest Missouri.

This was a sunflower planted on the edge of my father-in-law’s vegetable garden. For the most part, the gardening season is completed.

Loving the Light

Sunrise, Lake Michigan, Kewaunee, Lighthouse

The Kewaunee, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier is dwarfed by the big, beautiful, dramatic sky at sunrise. The calm water reflects the colorful twilight hues of the clouds.

I just happened to be in Kewaunee last weekend and made it a point to get up way before I needed to for church to capture some sunrise views from the beach. This was actually snapped about 20 minutes before sunrise. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this sunrise as a 7 or 8.  It was good enough to provide a number of good images…which I will be working on in the coming weeks.

This is a panorama of two combined shots. You can get a better, larger view by clicking on the photo.

Morning Orange

Sunrise, Lighthouse, Kewaunee, Seagull

You will find the Kewaunee, Wisconsin lighthouse perched on the end of a long pier. On the morning of this brilliant, orange sunrise, a seagull adds an additional point of interest as it soars gracefully by.

This is a ten-year-old image.  It was taken in June of 2014.  I had taken it, processed it, but, somehow, never posted it. I happened to find it this week and thought it was worthy of note. So, take note.  🙂  This photo doesn’t live up to the quality of my current work, but I think it is still worthy to be shared.  I hope the viewers agree.

Touch-Me-Nots After a Shower

Wildflowers, Orange, Touch-me-not, Droplets

A light shower left droplets clinging to the vibrant, orange Spotted Touch-me-not flowers and its leaves. These tiny beauties were found in the woodlands of northwest Missouri.

The common name (Touch-me-not) is a reference to the seed pods popping open if they are touched, a characteristic which also explains two other common names – Snapweed and Spotted Snap Weed. The plant is also known as Jewelweed and Spotted Jewelweed.

Tuliptree Blossom with Guest

Tuliptree, Flower, Insect

A vibrant green tuliptree flower with a rich yellow center is in full bloom, surrounded by large, lobed leaves. Some sort of insect is nestled in the flower’s petals, possibly collecting nectar or pollen.

Also shown in this photo is one of the tuliptree’s cone-like seed clusters that sit upright on the branches.  The tuliptree is one of the largest native trees in North America. It is a member of the magnolia family and has distinct tulip shaped flowers. The golden-yellow fall color of the tuliptree makes this an excellent choice for large landscapes.

I found this tuliptree in bloom while strolling the grounds at College of the Ozarks, just south of Branson, Missouri.

Getting this shot was not an easy task.  The blooms are up in a tree, well above my head and reach.  To get this image, I employed a monopod.  I extended it the full length, set the camera’s timer and guessed at the focal distance.  Then, after pressing the shutter button to activate the timer, I hoisted the camera above the bloom and waited for the “click” sound.  Then I’d lower it to eye level and look at the result. It took about six or seven attempts to get the correct framing and sharpness.

Heartwarming Cold Morning

Winter, Cold, Ice, Kewaunee, Lighthouse, Sunrise

A serene sunrise spreads warm hues above an icy Lake Michigan shore where the Kewaunee Wisconsin lighthouse holds its position at the end of a long pier.

The bare tree branches framing the top left corner of the scene adds a touch of nature to the tranquil, winter morning.  This photo was taken almost ten years ago. Current visitors will notice the lack of any trees in this area of the shoreline.

Coming In Hot

Algoma, Lighthouse, Sunrise, Lake Michigan

The Algoma, Wisconsin lighthouse and pier stands in silhouette against a dramatic sunrise sky, with contrails piercing through the clouds. The calm, cool Lake Michigan waters seem unaffected by the rising drama.

This is a companion image to “Path to Glory” that I posted May 21st. If you compare them it’s obvious, they were both taken on the same morning from a slightly different angle. This was a hidden gem I found on my hard drive from 2014.
