Perspective

Seeking Perspective

Bridge, Foot Bridge, Fisheye, Fish Eye

There are times when we all need to reflect and seek a little perspective. This foot bridge is a perfect point of perspective, spanning a gorge along the Eagle Creek Trail outside of Portland, Oregon.

Viewing the larger version adds a bit of perspective.  To do so, click on the image and a larger version will open in a new browser tab.

Colorful Catch of the Day

Kites, Fish, Soar On the Shore

From this perspective, these fish shaped kites seem to be dangling on a stringer. The fish are actually fluttering above one another in the breeze – their bodies horizontal to the ground – tethered to an upward arching line. It’s all about perspective.

This image was created by pointing the camera up at Algoma, Wisconsin’s annual kite festival known as “Soar On the Shore.”  Every year the city hosts the kite festival on the beach of its Lake Michigan shoreline. It is a very cool and colorful event. The 2024 event will be Saturday, August 17th.

Treetop Convergence

Trees, Upshot, Fisheye Lens

Looking upwards from an Oregon forest floor, the perspective gives this photo a kaleidoscopic feel.  The converging lines of the tree trunks create a dramatic vanishing point at the center of the blue sky. This image was captured along the Eagle Creek Trail in the Portland area.

Many of the trees in this area were ravaged by fire a few years before I was there.  Many of the tree trunks in this image still bear the blackened scars.  I was in the Portland area for a conference in October of 2022.

I took this photo with a fisheye lens and had to take several shots at different exposure levels so I could combine them for an HDR image. Otherwise, the sky would be too bright and the tree trunks would be too dark.  I may have over done the HDR since it has a surreal feel.

This is one of those images that really is better viewed larger.  You can see for yourself by clicking on the image.
