Going for Gold

Bee, Bumblebee, Orange-Belted Bumblebee, Wildflower, Yellow

While hiking a trait to a waterfall in Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota, I spotted a patch of yellow wildflowers.  The flowers were humming with busy bees. As I focused in on the bees, I noticed the orange area of their abdomen. While processing this image I did a quick internet search and learned these are orange-banded bumblebees. I don’t think I’ve seen this variety (Bombus ternarius) before.  If you zoom in, you can see the legs of the bee covered with pollen from the flowers. You can learn more about this variety of bee at Bees Wiki.

Rambling Wild Beauty

Wild Rose, Wildflower, White

These delicate white flowers are a version of a Wild Rose. This plant was found on a hike through the woods of northwest Missouri. Don’t you love the pink bud?

Honorine Jobert Anemone

Honorine Jobert Anemone, White Flower, Flower, Anemone

The Honorine Jobert Anemone is a delicate white flower with orange anthers surrounding a spherical green center (ovule). They bloom in the fall.

This particular patch was incorporated into the landscaping at the Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon.  I visited there is October of 2022.

Poppin’ Fresh

Poppy, Macro, Close UpThis is the first poppy bloom of our 2023 spring. My wife has a small patch of poppies in a flower bed next to our house. Every year they produce a beautiful, but short-lived display of bright orange blossoms. (It dropped its petals within 3 days.)

Yellow In Season

Sunflowers, Flowers, Yellow
A sight for sore eyes. These sunflowers will brighten up anyone’s day. These were found blooming in a farm field in northeast Wisconsin.

This is actually a field of sunflowers that surrounds our rural home. Simply breathtaking when if full bloom.  Watch for more photos to come.

Softly and Tenderly

Macro, Rose, Pink, Soft, Color, Flower Photo, Beautiful
There is something about the delicate furl and opening of rose petals that draws the viewer in. Doesn’t this image make you want to get closer to smell its intoxicating fragrance?

This is a flower I found on a trip to Branson, MO a couple of years ago.  It was in a small flowerbed, next to the parking lot, at a motel we spent the night at.  You never know where you will find beauty to behold…and capture…so keep your camera close by.
