River
Reflecting On the Mighty Mo
This is a pleasant, peaceful view of the Missouri River – standing on the Nebraska shore, viewing the Missouri shore. The cloud reflections in the water are what inspired me to take this shot. The tan areas in the foreground are where sunlight is filtering through the trees above, revealing the true color of the water.
We took a little trip to Indian Cave State Park. It’s located in the southeastern part of Nebraska, near Shubert. This photo was taken at the parking area of the Indian Cave.
This is not the greatest image, technically. I took this image with a wide, fisheye, lens – too get as much in the shot as I could. I also took three bracketed shots, hand-held, which gave me the ability to even out the bright sky and clouds with the dark, shaded foreground. However, by not having the camera on a firm tripod, this image is not as sharp as I would like.

Reflecting In Alabama
The tranquil Burnt Corn Creek meanders through Jennings Park in Brewton, Alabama, reflecting the surrounding greenery in the calm waters of this panoramic image.
I recently spent a weekend in Brewton Alabama. This creek runs along the border of Jennings Park – a beautiful attraction the locals can be proud of. It has paved trails, a long, raised boardwalk through a wooded area, an abundance of wild and cultivated flowers and this restful spot along the creek.
This panoramic image was produced by stitching five separate photos together to capture a wider perspective. To really enjoy the scene, I encourage you to click on the photo to view a much larger version.

Misty River Reflection
A calming sun rises over a bend in the Kewaunee River in northeast Wisconsin. warm light pierces the morning mist hugging the banks of the river. The calm water reflects the trees and sky, creating a symmetrical balance between nature’s elements.
This spot was a half mile down the road from our rural Kewaunee home. Most times, in search for a sunrise, I would pass by this spot on my way to the Lake Michigan shore to catch the sunrise along side the lighthouse. I believe the morning mist on the water caught my eye and garnered my attention.

The Bright Dark of Night
In the deep dark of night, the city waterway reflects lights of life. This is a view along the Riverwalk in downtown Milwaukee, WI.
This is an image I captured a couple of years ago. A photography friend from the Milwaukee area took me to some great spots for some night photography. I was looking through some of the shots I took that night but never got around to processing. I thought this one was worth a little effort.
I had posted another image from this taken the same night from this same area, in color, awhile back. (See Big City Serenity) This one, in monochrome tones, has become my favorite of the two. Take a look at the other one to see which one is more appealing to you.

Rock Bottom on the River
Despite the sign, it’s not the “Ro Bottom.” (I hear minions giggling.) It’s the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, located on the Riverwalk in downtown Milwaukee, WI. On an evening of “big city” night photography, a photographer friend and I shared a meal here and then walked up and down the river taking photos.

Pere Marquette Park Gazebo
Calm prevails over the Pere Marquette Park gazebo in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This was taken on a calm, evening stroll along the Riverwalk.
Spending time in Milwaukee recently, I was able to join a photographer friend for a little night photography. I don’t often get into the big city, so it was fun to capture big city lights. I thought this image was best suited for a monochrome treatment. I hope you think so too.

Slipping Toward Twilight
Shades of night are slipping into the River Walk area of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I was fortunate to spend some time doing some night photography with an experienced photographer from the Milwaukee area. It’s always great, when away from home, to have a photographer familiar with the location give you benefit of their experience.

Big City Serenity
I was able to connect with a photographer friend on a recent trip to Milwaukee, WI. He graciously took me to a few locations for nighttime photography. I thought this one turned out well.
Along Milwaukee’s river walk, there are a number of downtown locations where a beautiful scene can be captured.

Down by the Creek
Foggy River
On my way to the Lake Michigan shore…just around the bend from my house…I cross the Kewaunee river. As I was returning home after shooting a sunrise over the lake, I stopped to snap a few of the river.
There is often a hint of fog in the cool, low lying areas of the river, but this morning there was more than usual and the warmth of the still rising sun (just out of the frame on the right) added a great quality to the scene.
Fog is always cool but, I think, one of the more challenging situations to photograph. I find it very difficult to capture in the camera what the eye can see. Even when you can snag a cool scene like this, it still lacks the actual experience.
