Fireworks

This is a fireworks display in Manistique, Michigan on the 3rd of July of 2022. My wife and I were in the U.P. for a little getaway.  While there, we took in the fireworks celebration on the eve of Independence Day.

The title might seem a bit “out there” but I look at this photo and just think it looks like some strange creature with tentacles is coming to attack this quiet village.

I find the tone and color combination in this image very appealing. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Superior Gems

Lake Superior, Rocks, Colorful

These are some of the beautiful rocks on the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. You’ll notice the effects of sunlight through the ripples as these were photographed in about 6 inches of water.

I took a similar photo many years ago and it was always one of my favorites. I’ve wanted to get back there and get more photos so, on a recent get-a-way to the UP, we made a trip to the beach at Grand Marais, MI. Photographing, Bill Pevlor

I spent a long time trying to photograph through the water, in between the waves, to catch a calm enough moment when the waves wouldn’t obscure the beauty but the ripples would cast their magical spell over the rocks.

It was one of the most restful and enjoyable parts of our trip. We spent a good deal of time just sitting on the rocky beach, looking a rocks and enjoying the sunshine. My wife took a photo of me with her smart phone camera – catching me in action.

Something Wicked in the Woods

Woods, Forest, Roots, Wicked, Tangled, Upper Michigan
The tangle of roots from a fallen tree seemed like something wicked among the greenery of a Upper Michigan forest.

This seems a bit of an oddity among my usual selection of pretty flowers and glowing sunrises.  The curve of the dead, aging wood, in contrast with the new, green life around it caught my eye.

I debated whether to make it a monochrome image but decided the green wasn’t bright enough to hinder the mood.  And, again, I liked the contrast.
